The Medieval Period was evil for two very good reasons. One would be the hygiene and uncleanliness. This caused a lot of disease which followed as deaths. One great disease that we all know is the Black Plague.
"Why the Black Death was important to the history of England: The population drop resulted in a higher value being placed on labour - the Peasants Revolt followed in 1381. Farming changed and the wool industry boomed. People became disillusioned with the church and its power and influence went into decline. This ultimately resulted in the English reformation"

The second reason would be the government lust for power. Now everyone believes that the Church was the sole cause of all wars, However it's really the government that is behind it all. Governments such as the Romans and England's have used the churches to their own advantages. During the beginning of Catholicism, the Roman government officials made priests to spy on the people without the suspicion of any one. This is now known as confessional. England Medieval King realized to conquer places like Wales and Scotland was a great way to gain money and power by taxation of the people. This had caused a lot of revolts.

Essay
The Medieval Period was the time of fighting knights on their horse fighting for the princess, right? In actuality, this time period was known as “The Dark Ages”. The Dark Ages was as gloomy as it sounds because of the government, the uncleanliness, and long wars. These reasons were why the people turned to their imaginations from their everyday lives. They had either read if they were wealthy, or heard legends and stories of knights and dragons. The people also turned to the art which had so much religious influence.

The church became more powerful because of several of their actions for their people, literature and art. The Romans for example, were one of the first to experience a taste of democracy. They objected to the Catholic religion, but eventually joined the people. Even though they allowed this religion to spread, they had also some other plans up their sleeves. Priests were put in place to spy on the people. The government supported the church as long as they had confessionals. Confessions are when the people tell their sins to the church so they could be forgiven. So much for being forgiven when the people who admitted were charged for their crime afterwards. The Catholic church had so much power because of the government. The literature was also another major topic. At the time, the printing press didn't exist, so people copied literature by hand. The church, ruled by the government, hired monks to copy and spread the words of God. The church were provided much support and therefore had no competition. Also, due to the fact that religion had such a major influence on the people of this era, the church controlled much of what people did, said, and created. Many artists, such as Duccio di Buoninsegna, painted mostly religious scenes. One of Buoninsegna's paintings, the Rucellai Madonna, was created for Santa Maria Novella, and the Maesta` for Siena's Cathedral. Also, many architects, such as Benedetto Antelami, did much of their work for churches and cathedrals. Antelami created the Cathedral of Parma, located in Parma, Italy, and also worked on the sculptural decorations of the Baptistry of Parma. Not only that, but the Scrovegni Chapel, which was created in 1305, depicts the life of the Virgin and Christ. Therefore, much of the architecture of the Medieval period consisted of religious scenes and patterns, and of churches and cathedrals. Finally, the literature during this time period was regulated by the church. Early Medieval books were illustrated and hand-copied by monks, and were very expensive. An example of how this time was ruled by religion would be mystery plays that villages performed. These plays were very common in this era, and were a village's expression of important events from the Bible. Therefore, the Medieval period was a time period of very religious morals, and major church influence.

The second reason for this opaque time would be of the health situations being really dirty. Since there were no cleaning supplies like comet or softscrub, there was alot of disease going around Europe. Such diseases were Dysentry, Ergotism, Gonorrhea, Influenza, Malaria, Puerperal fever, Typhoid fever. All of these illnesses are caused by bacterial infections.
